
Metabolism and NEWS

As last week we focused on exercise today we’ll look at weight loss from nutrition and some on the science behind it. And obviously the news here at Nirvana.
When considering weight loss there is a big factor called metabolism. Now everyone knows someone that eats as much as they like and stays skinny, without even exercising. Now this is probably due to them having a high metabolism. And everyone has probably heard someone blame their weight on a slow metabolism, although this can hold some truth there are ways to increase your metabolism and therefore lose weight. Firstly metabolism is the amount of energy you will burn over a 24 hour period if just laying down and is not solely dictated by your genes, the higher the metabolism the more energy (kcal) you use. There are however 3 factors that can’t be changed when it comes to metabolism speed.
- Age – generally the younger you are the faster your metabolism
- Sex – I am afraid to say but males to tend to have a faster metabolism
- Size – If you are a naturally small person than you will tend to have a slower metabolism.
Now for the good part, the things you can do to speed up your metabolism.
- Firstly exercise – when exercising your metabolism will increase slightly therefore contribute to weight loss
- Muscle Mass – the more muscles mass you have the higher your metabolism will be. Now this is down to complicated science, but achieved through exercise. although I am not saying that everyone has to become a body builder or even have massive muscles but by toning and slightly building
- Skipping meals – Diet is one of the hardest things to get right when wanting to lose weight. If you were to skip meals your metabolism will decrease. This is due to the body being stressed and switching into a “starvation” mode, which is still with us from prehistoric times. As the body tries to slow down secondary functions in order to save energy and therefore reducing metabolism.
- Balanced diet – to ensure that our organs are working at their best and therefore increase our metabolism we must provide our bodies with the right nutrients. For example plenty of water vitamins and by eating regularly .
In a nut shell that is metabolism. As you can see there are 4 things that you can do in order to raise yours and lose weight. So no one can use that as an excuse.
Now to the news here at Nirvana.
Firstly we have new swimming lessons for children on Saturdays, this is going to be through the local company SportsXtra and will be held in the morning.
We are holding a jazz club here throughout March every Wednesday from 8 :30 till 10:30. At only 3 pound a ticket it’s well worth a look.
