Diets and News

by admin on February 10, 2013

Hello again everyone.

We have had a couple of weeks of from writing this blog due to holidays and birthdays, however I am back and ready to go.

In this week’s blog we will go into one of the most popular questions I get asked as a personal trainer, what diet should I go on? Also we will have the latest club news and information about the new Pilates classes.

Firstly as a personal trainer I hear all kinds of things about diets, most of it nonsense. When working for the NHS we were actively encouraged to make people aware of the “fad” diets and discourage people to use them. These being Atkins diet, sliming world and others similar. This was because in most cases they caused a yoyo dieting affect and in some cases caused damage to the body. Although some diets will work for some people the simple swap technique will work for everyone and in most cases, if not all, will not cost you any more money.

For the sake of this blog we will call this a diet , when really it is a lifestyle change. It is a very simple technique but gives results and will last. In order to carry this out all you need to do is evaluate your current diet; this can be done by keeping a short food diary. When you have completed this look back at your diary and evaluate it. By doing this you will be able to set yourself small, manageable goals. an example being , if you had a sandwich, crisps and a chocolate bar every day at lunch why not try and replace the crisps and chocolate bar with fruit or salad once a week. That is all, once a week, when you have achieved this you can then set yourself a new goal of say three times a week. Although the change may seem small the results are noticeable and last the test of time as you changing your habits for the better. Another example could be that you have a fry up 3 times a week. Now you are probably thinking I’m going to say change that to something healthier. But you don’t have to. A simple way to make a fry up healthy is to change how you cook, grill. Grill the bacon and cut the fat of, grill the tomatoes, chose wholegrain toast over white and try a poached egg. All these make the dish healthier and over the course of the year can save you a lot of kcal and grams of fat.

So if you want any more information regarding this simple technique please do not hesitate to ask.

Now to the club. As some of you may have already noticed Kirstie has started her Pilates classes and they are becoming incredibly popular. They are on a Tuesday 7 pm And Thursday 11am with the evening class you are required to book in advance to secure a place.

We are also looking to run a healthy living class which will consist of information about exercise, nutrition and general health to help you live healthier. For more information please contact reception.
